Faceless

7.11.2013

I have just made the permanent decision to delete my Facebook page.  I joined because it was a great way to share photos and thoughts with close friends and family.  I even got to reconnect with old friends I had lost touch with.

However, this came with baggage.  Lots of people added me that I didn't need or want to keep in touch with, but I felt the obligation to accept their request because it was the polite thing to do.  I thought, what if I saw them around and they wondered why I hadn't accepted their request?

So, 400+ "friends" later I felt bogged down by all of the mindless jabber that filled my news feed and thus my mind (not to mention the advertisements!).  I started checking it less and less to avoid this... but then missed a few important messages I wished I had seen sooner. I was torn.

By deleting it completely I get to keep in touch with the people who have my blog site, my website, e-mail address and phone number (or better yet - who I see in person regularly).  I feel that face to face interaction is much more meaningful and memorable.  My time can now be spent taking photos for this blog, enjoying life in some other way, and just going without the comparison to other people's lives on Facebook.
